Winter Statistics

The last penultimate day of exams is a great time to take a look back at the statistics so far this academic year. In short, you’ve recorded and watched more than ever before.

Sessions

Those of you who recorded sessions during the previous academic year may have noticed they’ve taken longer to process this year, here’s why:

If your session was recorded first thing in the morning, you probably haven’t noticed much more of a delay between you finishing and receiving the email to say the session is ready. However, a queue gradually builds up during the day. On busy days, sessions recorded in the evening aren’t available until 6am the next morning. Although this is well within the 24 hour turnaround, we’re doubling our capacity for processing, and hope to have this ready in the next couple of weeks.

This time last year, the 5,000th session was recorded

The increase in recordings this term has resulted in another milestone – our 10,000th session was recorded this week. (I never did get that chocolate biscuit)

Our busiest week, the last week of vacation, saw 505,568 minutes of content streamed to 2,346 of our students across 19,353 views – more than we’ve ever done before.

Google Analytics logged 105,254 visits between 23/09/2013 – 24/01/2014. Of these, 20,122 were from devices on campus.

I wouldn’t normally go into this much depth, but a number of the tools we offer either no longer support earlier versions of Internet Explorer, or will be phasing support out this year.

Worryingly, six thousand of those visiting using IE 7 were coming from computers at Aston. It looks like we’ve got some upgrading to do!
